A tangible path to connection and presence. Prepare your body and mind for childbirth.

In-Studio Offering:

  • Join us every Sunday from 6:45pm to 8pm, November 17th to December 22nd for the Late Autumn Six Week Prenatal Yoga Series. Intimate studio group classes held at Little Words Studio (204-3355 North Road, Burnaby. Upper Parking Lot.)

  • Winter Solstice Ceremony: On Sunday, December 22nd, we will close our series together with acknowledgement of the Winter Solstice, before the movement portion of the session.

    • This is a powerful time of year in the Northern Hemisphere when we celebrate the return of the light. The lengthening of our days begins and so does the winter. This outer cycle of rebirth seen in the Great Mother mirrors the continuum of childbirth - the birth process ends with us receiving the light from our wombs and we begin an Inner Winter, the hibernation stage of early postpartum.

  • Due to limited studio space registration is required for all classes for all participants.

    Please bring:

    • Yoga mat

    • Journal and pen (optional)

    • Blanket and pillow/bolster for comfort during savassana (optional)

Investment: $111 pre-registration. $20 drop-in. E-transfer to hello@katherineblanco.ca or cash is accepted at the door.

Prenatal yoga

Prenatal Yoga

There are many benefits of practicing yoga during pregnancy, including reduced stress, improved sleep, plus increased strength and endurance. Yoga is also an excellent preparation for your mind and body for birth. In the words of my beautiful teacher, Lori Lucas, yoga teaches you how to "relax on purpose". During the birth process, purposeful relaxation helps open up your body and allows for rest in between each wave.

Muscles send messages to each other. Clenched fists, a tight mouth, a furrowed brow, all send signals to the birth-passage muscles, the very ones that need to be loosened. Opening up to relax these upper-body parts relaxes the lower ones.

Postpartum Yoga

Similar to prenatal yoga there are incredible benefits to practicing yoga after baby arrives. These benefits include getting back in touch with your core, elevating strain from long feeding sessions, plus engaging and increasing muscle tone in the pelvic floor.

Yoga also helps reduce overall stress and assists in restoring your hormonal balance.
